02 / STAY / PROPERTY

Match the accommodation to the way you will use the island.

A sea view is not enough. Room layout, service, supplies and access determine whether a property works for your group.

Four useful accommodation formats

Private villas usually suit guests who want a full home, a kitchen and control over the daily rhythm. Check bedroom separation, shaded outdoor space, laundry provision and the route from dock to door. A villa may be private without being isolated from neighbouring homes or public paths.

Island houses can feel more connected to local life. They may sit within a settlement, near a harbour or beside working buildings. This can simplify supplies and arrival, but it may reduce seclusion. Ask for an accurate description of nearby activity rather than relying on broad words such as “exclusive”.

Boutique island properties and small retreats may provide shared services, prepared food or hosted activities. Confirm whether bathrooms are en suite, whether dining is communal and how late arrivals are handled. Exclusive-use accommodation can combine several rooms or buildings, but the booking definition must be read carefully.

Configuration before decoration

Start with the people, not the photographs. Count true beds. Separate children’s rooms from adult rooms. Check stairs, thresholds, railings and bathroom access. Groups often need a shared kitchen, a quiet work surface and somewhere to store wet equipment. Couples may value independent outdoor areas more than a large communal room.

Facilities and service levels

Service can range from self-catered to staffed. Ask what is included, what is optional and what must be arranged before arrival. Food delivery may depend on a mainland handover. Fresh supplies can be limited by sailing conditions. Do not assume that a private dock means a private boat or that a kitchen means regular provisioning.

Price varies with season, property size, guest count, exclusivity, transfers, included services and minimum-stay rules. Use “PRICE VARIES” until current terms are confirmed directly.

Privacy is a specification

Define privacy precisely. Is it visual privacy, exclusive use of the house, private access to the water, or quiet at night? Check public footpaths, nearby buildings, staff presence, boat traffic and any restrictions on outdoor sound. A secluded property can still be part of an active coastal community.
